Enjoying the vibrancy of the Cheltenham Festivals

The festivals are a big draw to the town and people from far and wide come to enjoy the delights of science, jazz, literature and music in various locations across the town.

Cheltenham Festivals operates as a charity and aims to give access to people from all walks of life to the various sectors that they produce festivals in as well as supporting up and coming individuals in each of these areas. Schools across the region get involved in the festivals, in particular the literature festival.

The Jazz Festival takes place in in early May and this year will see events take place from 1st to 6th May in various places across the town. With over 20,000 people visiting each year to enjoy the delights of various musical talents including the likes of international jazz artists, local musicians as well as new and upcoming individuals.

The Literature Festival takes place in October each year and sees authors and celebrities from all over the country and other internationally attending the event to share their latest works with audiences. There are events for all ages and families across the festival period with many authors offering book signings and meet and greets. Many authors will use the platform of the festival to release a new title or perhaps garner popularity for an upcoming idea.

The Music Festival occurs in July and sees thousands of people visiting to enjoy the delights of a variety of music genres in the beautiful summer weather. Various venues throughout Cheltenham will house a variety of events including outdoor venues as well as the Town Hall and Pittville Pump Rooms. A variety of music is played during this festival including classical music and will be performed by individuals, groups and orchestras.

The Science Festival in June works to bring science to life and will see schools across the county visiting workshops and talks to help inspire students to engross themselves into the world of STEM subjects. This is a large growth area with many professionals, scientists and companies embarking on an outreach programme to encourage more young people, and girls in particular, to take up STEm related further educational studies and ultimately careers.
