Five ways to achieve a perfect smile

Many of us are self-conscious about our teeth and wish that they were whiter or straighter. The good news is that there are many ways that you can improve the condition and appearance of your teeth, ranging from correct brushing techniques to sophisticated orthodontics, like Cardiff invisalign treatment.

Good dental hygiene

We all know that brushing at least twice a day with a toothpaste containing fluoride is important to remove food debris and prevent a build-up of plaque. However, many of us slip into bad habits by not brushing each area of the tooth, with the section nearest the gum line often missed. Using floss between the teeth will also help to remove plaque and help to avoid gum disease and bad breath. A fluoride mouthwash can also help to reduce plaque, but should not be used straight after brushing your teeth or less than half an hour before eating.

Whitening and stain removal

Even with diligent brushing, your teeth may become stained or yellowed over time. There are many treatments to whiten your teeth, from the use of bleaching agents to laser whitening techniques.

Crowns and Bridges

If a tooth becomes very decayed or damaged, you may be offered a crown which is a special cap that is fixed over the original tooth. When teeth are lost completely, another option is a bridge, which is a bespoke fitting made from porcelain and metal. A bridge looks a little like a denture, but is fixed permanently in the mouth.

Fixed or removable braces

When teeth are uneven or crooked, there are a number of orthodontic treatments available for realignment. This usually takes the form of a brace which can either be fixed in place or a removable device which is adjusted as your teeth re-shape. Whilst children will generally be able to get orthodontic treatment through the NHS, for adults it is usually necessary to have private treatment. It is essential to arrange such treatment through a reputable practice such as the Cathedral Dental Clinic.

Tip 5: – Veneers or implants

The appearance of teeth can be improved by the application of veneers, which are thin layers of porcelain that are permanently fitted over each tooth. Finally, in the case of lost teeth, an implant is a permanent alternative to dentures, where a single or multiple replacement implant is anchored to the jaw.
