If you read our complete customization guide for Windows 10 you surely already know how to change the Windows theme, icons and so on. However, something we did not cover in that article were the sounds of the system, an element that can be quite striking for some users.
The vast majority of third party themes do not usually get into the sounds, or things like the mouse pointer. But, the official Microsoft issues are another story. While the first ones change the decoration of the windows quite a lot, the seconds just change the wallpaper and the colors, but some special, also change the sounds.
Microsoft makes available to everyone a page with Desktop Themes for Windows. Here you will find many themes, most are just a pack of similar images and almost all are compatible with Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.
Unlike third-party themes that require a special patch because they change window decorations and more, these themes only change the color of the taskbar, menu, and wallapers. Except for the small group of ones that include custom sounds.
All you have to do is download the topic that most catches your attention and then double click on the package that will have a .themepack extension . This will apply the theme instantly, and you will hear the new welcome sound right away.
If you want to return to the previous topic or manage all downloaded themes, you must open the Settings menu by pressing the Windows + I key. Go to Personalization, then select the Themes option and finally click Theme Settings. In the new window that appears you will be able to see in the first row the list of official subjects installed.
If you want to try all the sounds of your new theme, just click on Sounds and open the menu where you can hear them all. You can also create your own combination and save them.
