A healthy set of teeth are always regarded as an attractive quality, and the reasons that we are attracted to a nice healthy smile is because oral hygiene plays a crucial role in the overall health of the body as a whole. As well as making us look younger, a good smile also makes us look healthier.
Teeth are important to us as they help us to chew our food properly so that we can then digest it. As well as this, they help our facial bone structure and shape, and help us to be able to talk and communicate. So good oral hygiene is really important if you want to keep your teeth looking great for life.
The most important thing is of course regular brushing – where you use an electric toothbrush or a bamboo toothbrush, teeth should be brushed for two minutes twice a day at minimum, but it is also good to clean them after meals or if you have eaten a sugary snack.
Of course this is something else to think about – sugar is one of the worst things for your teeth and lots of drinks and foods have very high quantities of sugar, so it is a good idea to look into how much sugar you are really consuming and try to cut some out.
As well as our teeth, care should also be taken to care for gums as these are what hold the teeth in place! Brushing and using mouthwash both help, as does regular flossing. If gums are bleeding do not ignore it, visit your dentist straight away as it is a sign of gum disease.
